Council Unites People and Ideas in Push for Sustainability Leadership

Parsons Brinckerhoff developed a corporate sustainability policy 10 years ago. The extent to which each of its operating companies has incorporated it into its operations and services has varied with local market conditions. In order to enhance Parsons Brinckerhoff's standing as a global leader in this area, a more consistent and proactive approach was needed.

The Sustainability Council is leading the charge. The Council, which consists of nine members and additional associate members, was appointed in 2011 to develop a global platform that achieves that leadership position. This work led to the Sustainability Program, which was issued in April 2012.

As an advocate of sustainable development, Parsons Brinckerhoff advises its clients to consider the economic, social, and environmental impact of their projects. So when the company establishes its own office space, it must put its most sustainable foot forward.

In the case of the firm's new shared services center in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Parsons Brinckerhoff has taken the concept even further, creating a corporate space that stands as a model of sustainable practices.

Botswana Gets Green Light on Green Energy Initiative

A year-long feasibility study into the costs and impact of building a concentrated solar thermal power (CSTP) plant in Botswana shines a ray of hope on the African nation's plan to “go green.”

The consortium of experts that conducted the study, including Parsons Brinckerhoff and a trio of Spanish concerns, concluded that a 100 MW CSTP plant to be located in Jwaneng would have significant economic and environmental benefits that will help Botswana meet its goal of generating 25 percent of its electrical power from renewable energy sources by 2030.
